Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil Review & Giveaway

I was recently given the opportunity to try Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil.  Coconut oil is a huge staple for much of the cloth diapering community:  you can use it on diaper rashes and it's safe for cloth diapers.  I was surprised to see that the coconut oil was a semi-solid when it arrived in the mail because I was expecting it to be a liquid.  Coconut oil has a very low melting point, so the warmth of your hands is enough to melt the oil and easily rub it into the skin. Another big surprise about coconut oil is that it's not greasy.  We used the coconut oil as an all-over moisturizer for our infant son with eczema.  Baby's skin responded well to the oil, it was non-irritating, and didn't cause any stinging.  I accidentally got a little bit of the coconut oil on baby's tongue while I was moisturizing his face and now he acts like a rooting baby bird every time I moisturize his cheeks:  he really liked the flavor of this coconut oil!

Coconut oil is traditionally used in cooking and I'm using it as a substitute in many of our dishes.  I made a gluten-free, vegan brownie recipe with our coconut oil and my brownies turned out wonderfully.  I'm still doing a food-allergy elimination diet for baby's eczema and many of the recipes call for coconut oil.  I never thought I liked the flavor of coconut very much, but the Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil has a mild and fresh coconut flavor. The flavor is very different from the highly-processed, and strongly sweetened coconut flavors I'm used to. Everyone in our house has really enjoyed the flavor of this coconut oil.
