The Little Bee Co. "Ultra Cool" Diaper #Review and #Giveaway

A company with a cause: The Little Bee Co. is helping children in need by donating a diaper for each diaper sold.  The Little Bee Co. recently visited Uganda where they donated around 1500 diapers. Owners met with families in need, and demonstrated how to use the diapers. I was completely in awe when I saw photos from their recent trip abroad – this company cares deeply for children. I love that you can make a difference for babies in need by purchasing cloth diapers from The Little Bee Co. for your own children.

The Little Bee Co. sent me a Bee Changed Ultra Cool diaper with CoolPlus lining for review, and I had a great experience with it. When I opened my package from The Little Bee Co., I saw they provided a pamphlet with information about the various styles of diapers and also a great description of their philosophy of Buy-a-diaper-give-a-diaper.  The cloth diaper was professionally packaged and I loved the color: African Rain.  I was already really excited about the new diaper, and I could not wait to get it on my baby for a thorough testing.

Careful inspection of the Ultra Cool diaper, told me that this was a high-quality pocket diaper. This diaper comes with two inserts – small and large- and a pocket diaper shell where the diaper inserts are "stuffed."  The diaper inserts are made from bamboo and organic cotton, and they are incredibly soft and absorbent.  Aside from the basics, there are some exciting features which make the Ultra Cool diaper unique.

Bee Changed Ultra Cool Features:

  • One-Size (fits most babies from 8-35lbs)
  • Cross-over snap design (fits smaller babies)
  • Waterproof PUL keeps moisture inside the diaper
  • Adjustable, and durable snap rise settings and closure
  • Leak guard front elastic- great for stomach sleepers
  • Small and large inserts made from bamboo and organic cotton
  • "CoolPlus" lining (poly/nylon blend) with excellent wicking properties: absorbent fabric that allows moisture to pass into inserts.

About the Tester:

  • 6-month-old baby boy

  • Moderate wetter

  • 50% weight (17.5 lbs)
  • Scooting and sitting, but not crawling

This is a high-quality diaper made with all the features a cloth diapering family would look for.  One feature I especially like is the elastic across the front of the diaper.  Some cloth diapers have a tendency to gap or bulge underneath the belly button, which can result in poor fit and leaks - especially during naps. Elastic banding ensures a snug and comfortable fit across the tummy.  This diaper also has a lower rise, where the front of the diaper fits nicely below the belly button, allowing babies to comfortably stretch and move while in a sitting position.  Elastic around the legs and back of the diaper provided a great secure fit and allowed for plenty of movement.  I absolutely love the fit of this diaper.

This Ultra Cool diaper from The Little Bee Co. is, now, one of my favorite cloth diapers. The small insert worked well for our six-month-old and the diaper was very trim fitting. I used the large insert when I expected baby to need more absorbency.  The large insert was bulkier, but I was able to get a great fit around baby’s legs by adjusting the rise snaps on the diaper.  The fit was so good, that we did not experience any leaks while using the diaper.  The CoolPlus lining also seemed to help contain leaks.

I had no previous experience with CoolPlus linings, but I was pleasantly surprised by this material.  CoolPlus is a thicker fabric that had a decent amount of absorbency and also allows moisture to pass through it and into the inserts.  I really liked that the CoolPlus fabric had some absorbency because it ensured that urine did not roll off the diaper and result in leaks.  Lately, we are having some problems with fleece-lined pocket diapers and an alternative pocket diaper lining is a welcome change.
