Thirsties Fab Fitted #Review and #Giveaway from Eco Heiney

I'm somewhat of a newcomer to fitted diapers.  If you haven't used fitteds, they are a highly-absorbent no-fold diapering system.  This past fall I started using fitteds on our baby for overnight cloth diapering.  We had been having problems with overnight diaper leaks, and even disposable diapers couldn't contain a full night's worth of liquid.  I experimented with several different brands of fitted diapers in several different price ranges.  I liked certain features about some, but I never found a fitted diaper that really satisfied all my criteria for that "perfect" overnight diaper.  That changed when Eco Heiney contacted me to review the Thirsties Fab Fitted

Thirsties Fab Fitted:
  • Retails for $16.25
  • Two-step: Size 1 (6-18lbs), Size 2 (18-40 lbs)
  • Available in snap or aplix closure
  • One piece with fast-dry tunnel system (no stuffing, no prepping)
  • Soft terry outer and inner
  • Wide range of available colors

Eco Heiney also sent me the Thirsties Diaper Wrap for the purpose of this review.  Fitted diapers are not waterproof and they need to be covered with a diaper cover.

What I loved about the Thirsties Fab Fitted and Diaper Cover Combo

Easy to use

The Thirsties Fab Fitted was incredibly easy to use and was "Daddy approved." I loved the aplix on the Fab Fitted. I had the fitted diaper on and the diaper cover over it within a matter of seconds.  Speed is definitely an issue for us: getting baby out of the bath, moisturized, diapered, and into pajamas is a nightly routine that can cause tears when the process takes too long.  I really prefer to have aplix closures on my fitted diapers, but if you prefer snaps then that option is available too. The Fab Fitted fabric is also slightly stretchy and this allows you to quickly put on the diaper.  I have other fitted diapers that are made without stretchy fabric: they are difficult to put on and will be out-grown sooner.  My husband loved how easy the Fab Fitted went on and commented about how much he liked the Thirsties Diaper Cover: he didn't have to spend extra time tucking the fitted diaper back under a poor-fitting diaper cover.

Absorbent but Fast-drying
The real surprise about the Thirsties Fab Fitted was that it could hold a lot of moisture, yet it dried extremely quickly. I usually add extra absorbency to many of my fitted diapers, but Thirsties Fab Fitted could handle a 12 hour sleep stretch with multiple nursing sessions.  The diaper contains an absorbent microfiber layer which really holds a lot of liquid without making the diaper bulky. One morning, baby made a poop before I had him out of bed and changed into a morning diaper.  I was nervous that I would have a huge mess escaping the diaper.  However, the Fab Fitted held everything in: zero leaks despite tackling 12 hours of liquids and an unexpected poop. After laundering, I tumble-dried the Fab Fitted and it dried quickly.  Many of my fitted diapers need to be sequentially tumble-dried and then line dried for twenty-four hours.  This means you need fewer Fab Fitteds because they dry in less time.

Comfortable
Having comfortable cloth diapers is a major concern for our family and Thirsties Fab Fitted excelled in this area.  Our son's eczema is extremely irritated by rough fabrics, but the soft terry feel of the Fab Fitted was perfect for his sensitive skin.  The microfiber layer also helps to draw moisture away from baby's skin, but the terry cloth design is absorbent and prevents moisture from rolling off of the diaper.  The Thirsties Diaper Cover is also wonderful because it contains double leg gussets to provide a good fit without making the diaper too tight around the legs.  The diaper and diaper cover were trim enough, and stretchy enough for use during the day and use on an active baby.

Thirsties Fab Fitted definitely wins my prize for the most convenient, most comfortable, most economical, and most functional fitted cloth diaper.  When it comes to fitted diapers, I'm not an easy customer to please.  I own many different brands of fitted diapers (ranging in price from $19-$40), but I'm still not 100% satisfied with the functionality of these other brands.  I was completely happy with how the Thirsties Fab Fitted worked and I'm pleased to recommend it to my readers.
